5G Wireless for Front Haul, Mid Haul & Back Haul

5G transport networks consist of fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul that interconnect cell sites to each other, then to the core network and eventually to data centers. In 5G, the Baseband Units (BBU) is disaggregated into a Central Unit (CU) and a Distributed Unit (DU). The 5G fronthaul transport network interconnects Active Antenna Unit (AAU) to DU. The 5G midhaul interconnects the CU to the DU. 5G backhaul is essentially similar as in 4G but carrying much more traffic due to higher performance and higher bandwidth 5G New Radios.
